pope john paul II



so, maybe it's insensitive to post this silly picture of the pope here. and maybe it's insensitive to put a link to, quite possibly, the funniest Onion headline in a long time.

but no more insensitive than the mayor of rome using the death of the pope to try and host the olympics. this is pulled from the usa today.

Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni is not letting this global spotlight go to waste. He already has used the success to highlight his city's organizational prowess and call for Rome as a future Olympic site.

"This was the biggest event in the world, organized in just two days, and there wasn't even a single robbery," Veltroni told USA TODAY on Sunday. "Rome's very DNA is that of an open, welcoming city. That attitude, along with the help of thousands of personnel, is what made this possible."
