time's 100 best movies of all time

time magazine has come out with a list of the 100 best movies of all time according to richard corliss and richard schickel. first of all, i hate the list because it doesn't rank the films. i know as well as anybody that it's almost impossible to rank the greatest movies of all time, but still. if you are going to publish a list, rank the films.

before i lay out my thoughts you can check out the list here

now let's talk about why the list is stupid. clearly an effort has been made to pick an equal number of films from each decade. i hate this. they are not all equal (1980's i'm looking at you). also, i feel like certain omissions and inclusions were made sorely for the purpose of attracting attention. i would probably say that about any top 100 of all time list i ever saw but it's true. i think people are afraid to include some films that are universally regarded for fear of their list being "boring". i'll let you make your own list of offensive omissions from the time guys.

the following are films i find extremely overrated and don't deserve the constant recognition they get.

8 1/2
blade runner
brazil
city of god
some like it hot

and these three i honestly think are bad.

detour
the man with a camera (yeah it's significant, so what? i hate it.)
pinocchio

those quibbles aside, the list is alright. and special kudos for including these films which are sorely underrated.

barry lyndon
ikiru
once upon a time in the west
sunrise

what do you guys think? anyone brave enough to post their own top 10 of all time?
