ireland day 3

so katz and i wake up pretty early on friday. maybe it's the jet lag again. we have a big breakfast (basically any meal at home was "big") and a cup of tea (there was lots of tea during the trip). we are faced with the day and not really sure what to do with it. we've already explored town, my cousins are all busy with things, and we have very little interest in sightseeing. so we played darts and "name that tune" in the game room. we had decided to rent a car from my cousin darren since he ran a rental dealership at the airport and he could cut us a sweet deal. but we had to kill time until we could go pick it up.

so we walked into town again and our earlier suspicions were confirmed. unless you are shopping, limerick is boring as shit.

finally in the afternoon my aunt took us out to the airport to get a car. darren indeed cut us a sweet deal (75 euros for 4 days) and we got ourselves a brand new 2005 pugeot with 28 miles on it. perhaps i should reiterate that getting this car was potentially a terrible idea. not only was i not used to driving on the left side of the road, while sitting on the right side of the car, but it was also a stick shift and i was definitely not used to shifting gears with my left hand. but we assured darren that it would be fine, and like good family he gave us this beauty here.

i took it out on the road and had a few little curbchecks here and there. my biggest problem turned out to be judging how far away from the curb i was on the left side since i was used to being right next to the curb on the left. anyway, i was feeling pretty confident in no time. we decided to stop at the famous bunratty castle where every night they give a real medieval feast and throw one lucky particpant in the dungeon until he sings or dances his way out. i thought it sounded perfect for katz. as it turns out it's 35 euros for the dinner and 11 euros just to go inside the castle and look around. we settled for taking some pictures outside it like this one of aaron that i think is hilarious.

later that night we did go out to the pubs. we started at shane's, then hopped to what we were told were the hotspots. "nancy's" and some other pub named after a girl. they both were pretty cool in design and ambiance but both were so packed that it was uncomfortable. katz and i didn't have the nerve to go up to anybody as well so we basically just hung with ourselves. we didn't get too hammered and after midnight when they closed we took a cab home. the next day we were going to drive to dublin.
